Toshikazu Kanke, and his game ‘LambJump‘, was the winner of the ‘Create your local Christmas game‘ we launched on December 2014. We have made him some questions to know more about this game developer, his relationship with games and his opinion about WiMi5 as a development platform. This is the interview. WiMi5: Please, tell us something about your background, who are you?
Toshikazu Kanke: My name is Toshikazu Kanke. 43 yeas old.
I’m a freelance (self employed) game developer.
My main skill is “game designing(planning)”. The programming is my sub skill.
Once I was also a company employee. I have made many games, on many platforms.
and… My wife is a “game graphic designer”. The graphics of “LambJump” are all her works.
W: Why do you make games?
TK: Making game is my work.
But I also make it just for fun!
W: What have you studied?
TK: I don’t have learned the programming by anyone.
(So my cooperation programming skill is not enough.)
I’ve input many game programs published in the magazines, since I was 11 years.
I’ve modified many games as I liked.
I’ve made many games of my own.
I have got my base programming skills by my own hobby experiences.
W: Where do you have worked?
TK: Once I was also a company employee.
But I’m a freelancer now.
I usually work in my house.
I live in Fukushima, Japan.
… About 4 years ago, we have faced a great crisis.
I want to say thanks to a lot of supports from all of the world.
W: What is you current relationship with the gaming industry?
TK: As already said, I’m a game developer.
On the other hand, I’m a lecturer of vocational/professional school, too.
I’m a member of “IGDA Tohoku“.
W: How did you know WiMi5?
TK: By the Japanese web news.
W: How many hours did you spend to create your first video game with WiMi5?
TK: My first WiMi5 game is “LambJump”.
I made it in half a day (about 12 hours) except graphics.
W: What is the easiest thing to learn in WiMi5? And most complicated?
TK: WiMi5 has 2 editor screens, “Logic chart” and “Scene Editor”.
This system is like to “Adobe Flash” that I have very used.
The response of the editor is so good, that is very important!
On the other hand, I have had some troubles in my first game developing.
I have found many Blackboxes in the group that is not same as in the tutorial videos. I have had no idea about the best Blackbox to Initialize the parameters, and I have used “CodeRunner” for them! (>_<;
# The “CodeRunner” is very useful for the beginner of the WiMi5!
W: What is your overall perception about WiMi5?
TK: WiMi5 is a very nice framework for hobby, and very hopeful framework for business. ( Monetize, Publish for many devices,… )
W: Thank you very much, we hope you will continue creating great games with WiMi5.
