Tutorial 4: Publications
When you sign in WiMi5 you will access to the Dashboard, where you can manage your projects.
Currently you can create a new project, edit existing ones or clone a project from a repository of project samples. In the Dashboard you will find all your created projects, and in each project there are 3 buttons available.
With the left button you can access to the Settings of your project. With the right button you can access to the WiMi5 game creation tool and start editing your HTML5 game. In the Settings you will be able to publish your game and in the game creation tool you can test your game.
Testing your HTML5 game with WiMi5
As a game developer is highly recommended to test periodically your game. As explained in Tutorial 3 you can use the Preview panel to quickly test your game. Besides this feature WiMi5 also allow to test your HTML5 game in a very easy way.
As explained before you always must deploy your project before publishing it in order to see the new changes in the game. To deploy a project you can use the ‘Deploy’ option in the ‘Tools’ menu of the top bar.
After deploying you will get this window.
After deploying the project you can publish your project in a private URL using the yellow button. The platform will create an URL which you can use for testing purposes or sharing with your team or customers.
Publish HTML5 games with WiMi5 in the Labs site
If you want to share your HTML5 experiments or projects with other game developers or players you can publish it into the Labs site. The WiMi5 Labs site is an open space for experimenting and creating exploring the possibilities that the WiMi5 platform freely offers to the community.
To publish your game just click in the ‘Labs’ button in the left menu of the window. In the ‘Publish in Labs’ section you will have to fill some information about your project: title, promotional text, promotional image, etc., and then click the publish button to make it public and hence accessible by anyone. Currently you will able to publish only in the Labs Area, coming soon you will able to publish in the Game Arena and other marketplaces as Chome Web Store or Firefox Marketplace.
- Title: this is the title you want to show for your HTML5 game in the Labs site.
- Promotional text: this is the text used for describing your game and it will be shown in the Labs site, close to the title of your HTML5 project.
- Deployed version: is the number of the version you are currently deploying.
- Promotional image: this thumbnail will be shown in the Labs site. The required resolution is 300×200 pixels. If the resolution of the image is different, it will be scaled to that resolution. You can upload .png or .jpg files. In order to select an image you can use the Assets Manager (your cloud storage in WiMi5) and select the image from your directory or you can upload a new one. After selecting the Promotional Image the ‘Publish Project’ button will be active and you will be able to click on it and publish your game. Before doing that you have to check the ‘terms and conditions’ and accept them.
After publishing your HTML5 game it will instantly be shown in the WiMi5 Labs site.
The WiMi5 Game Arena and other publishing partners
Currently you will able to publish only in the Labs Area, coming soon you will able to publish in the Game Arena and other marketplaces as Chome Web Store or Firefox Marketplace.
